Red over the knee boots sit high on the list when it comes to the ‘it’ shoes of the season. However, I know it’s a sticky trend to try, so I’ll be sharing my top styling tips for perfecting this fierce look.

STYLING TIPS FOR RED OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

Red happens to be the perfect update as over the knee boots were beginning to feel stale these last few seasons. And I have to admit, I’m loving them. Despite how daring and risqué red over the knee boots may seem, there is a way to work them into real life. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need mile-long legs! They’re a design that functions for every size and height when styled carefully and intently. Here are a few of my favorite ways to wear red over the knee boots this fall.

Pair With a Micro Mini

The easiest way to wear red over the knee boots is with a thigh-grazing skirt or dress! This combination works well for those of us who lean on the petite side because it helps add length. To balance out the risk factor in a mini and thigh-high boot pairing, make sure your sleeves are covered and then layer up with a jacket. That’s exactly how I chose to wear my boots. I’ve probably mentioned before how much I love red against black and crisp whites, so I stuck to this color range – and I’m super pleased with the results. It feels quite french and very fitting for Paris. You can also take notes from street style and the runway… Red over the knee boots look chic as ever with a traditional shirt dress and blazer – and they look just as lovely with shift dresses or an oversized sweater dress.

Pair With a Floaty Piece

If red over the knee boots with a micro mini feels a little too provocative, you can easily throw it underneath a wispy maxi dress or a ruffle skirt that hits below the knees. It’s a great way to keep your legs warm as the temperatures drop, plus no one will ever know you’re wearing them. And if you’re looking to style them for work, they appear just as sophisticated under a pencil skirt. You can always top off your outfit with an oversized maxi coat to tone down the bold look. I find that this type of pairing looks best with boots comprising a stiletto or kitten heel because it creates the illusion of sleek, slender lines instead of bulk.

Pair With a Thigh-High Slit

If you’ve got great legs or appreciate sexier styles, pairing red over the knee boots with a thigh-high slit is a great way to flaunt your favorite asset – whether that’s with a dress, wrap skirt or coat. Just be sure not to reveal too much elsewhere. If you’re daring enough to show off your fashion prowess, then go for an all-red look like Olivia Culpo. Notice how the covered neck and bouncy sleeves take away from the overall seductiveness even with such a high slit? This is the perfect example of showing a sliver of skin a modern sexy way.
