If you only want to invest in one accessory this spring, what you need is a hat! During fashion week and on the runways, I noticed that everyone wore hats and it completely transformed the vibe of their look. I’m a fan of hats and have been wearing this one on repeat. 

However, there are many other chic and modern options to pick from. I wanted to cover the 4 types of hats you need this spring and show you how I wear them. No matter which hat suits your style, you can be confident that whatever you buy now will be useful throughout summer and fall.

5 Types of Hats You Need This Spring

Spring is a season when the weather is unpredictable. In New York City, it’s actually still pretty cold which makes waking up early difficult. On days I need to run out for errands or school but don’t really want to fix my hair, a hat is my solution. Also, if there’s a slight chill outside, I usually want my head covered and will immediately grab a hat. Even though I love pom pom beanies, they don’t work in the spring time; however, there are other styles that look equally as cute and transformative which I’ll cover today.

The hat you see in this outfit is by Ruslan Baginskiy, a Ukranian milliner that specializes in trendy headwear. The brand is loved and worn frequently by celebrities and fashionistas alike. As a result, it can be difficult to get your hands on one. You might be able to tell from the photos that there’s a certain structure to it that makes this design unique. Coupled with the leather and vinyl accent, I can see why so many people love it. This leads me into my first category of hats you need for spring:

Baker Boy Cap

The hat in my outfit today is the perfect example of what the baker boy cap looks like. I’m sure you’ve seen it all over Instagram, but it’s taking a turn this season. So many variations are popping up and you can expect 2018’s version to be fun-filled with embellishments and new textures like the one featured here. It’s easy to see why everyone loves this hat – it’s just so cool and effortless.

Beret

The beret will stay relevant for the first part of spring while it’s still cool outside. Like the baker boy cap, we’ve seen the beret’s wool beginnings change into leather fabrications, grommet details, and fluffy textures. It’s the best and easiest way to add a touch of Parisian chic to your daily looks.

Sun Hat

The sun hat becomes a must-have as we move into mid spring. That’s usually a time when beach vacations start happening and we also tend to spend a little more time by the poolside. This hat is great for shielding you from the harsh rays of the sun with its wide brim. It’s also the cutest addition to fit and flare dresses which are so wearable during spring.

Boater Hat

The boater hat is similar to the straw hat except it features a flat top and flat brim. It’s also not as wide and floppy as the former. I love this one when I’m traveling in the spring and summer because it provides some sun protection but still looks cute with any dresses or warm weather outfits.

Baseball Cap

Playing on the long-lived athleisure trend, baseball caps are perfect for wearing throughout spring. It’s so versatile and plays down any outfit whether you’re in heels or sneakers. I picked up this Gucci one when I was in Rome and looking forward to all the different ways I get to style it.
