Wear the Trend: The Deconstructed Look in Tokyo, Japan

If there is one trend that is taking over the fashion world right now, it’s the deconstructed look. “What is a deconstructed look?” you may ask. Well, let’s take a look!

WEAR THE TREND: THE DECONSTRUCTED LOOK

In Tokyo, Japan

The deconstructed look, in fashion terms, is where a garment is remade into a new and unique style by ‘deconstructing’ a traditional piece of clothing. As a former fashion design student I have heard this term used over and over to describe many designers’ work. Often the deconstructed look refers to pieces with ‘unfinished’ fashion details like exposed zips, raw edges, and revealed lining, etc.

Lately we’ve been seeing A LOT of deconstructed tops and dresses that take apart a shirt or jacket since they have many elements to them (collar, lapel, cuff, placket, etc) that can be broken down. So many brands have taken this concept and combined it with other fashion trends like the off the shoulder or cold shoulder trend.

A brand that is doing this deconstructed look very well is Monse. I personally love the way Monse has approached this trend and really played with deconstructing the shirt and jacket in so many ways. In fact, I wore a Monse top at Art Haus Taipei in my last blog post. But don’t worry if Monse is out of your price point. More affordable options are also available at Storets and Pixie Market, both of which I have purchased several items from!

My outfit today is from Pixie Market. This dress caught my eye because of the way it combined several different trends. It is a deconstructed look combined with the one shoulder trend and the two-piece dress trend. The dress deconstructs a suit jacket, places the lapel across the chest and the buttons along the side seam. I paired these fun details with these cool spidey mules (which are currently 70% off!) and a funky Moschino bag that has gotten me SO many compliments.
