WHERE TO STAY IN AMSTERDAM

5 Best Amsterdam Houseboats

Did you know that Amsterdam has more than 100 kilometers of canals? There are 165 canals and about 2500 houseboats in total! Amsterdam houseboats have been floating around the Amstel River for more than a century. Knowing that the canals and boats are such a specialty to the city, I thought “what could be more fun and unique than staying in one of the many Amsterdam houseboats?” Here is my experience living on a houseboat as well as 4 other recommendations for your next stay in Amsterdam.

1. AMAZING HOUSEBOAT WITH 5 BEDROOMS (AIRBNB)

I found my houseboat via Airbnb (click this link to get $40 off your next Airbnb booking!). This houseboat had 2 floors, a full kitchen, 5 separate rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets and a large outdoor deck! It is perfect for a family vacation or group trip with friends. The rooms and bathrooms downstairs are a little small, but each room can definitely accommodate one person comfortably.

The upstairs area has a fully equipped kitchen and a decent size dining table that can seat at least 6 people. You could also choose to dine in the back deck, watch boats pass by and pedestrians and cars cross the bridge nearby. Remember to bring ear plugs because noise definitely travels in a boat like this!

One of the great perks of this houseboat is that it is located very close to the Central Station. You can conveniently walk there and take the train to other cities in the Netherlands!
