Victorian and romantic accents are hitting hard right now especially with the ruffles trend we’ve been seeing everywhere! Ruffles have been sprucing up everything from coats to cozy sweaters.
How to Pull Off the Ruffles Trend This Fall
Ruffles are a great fall trend to try if you love a feminine look. It’s also something I wear pretty religiously so I have a few tips that will really help you personalize it. The secret to perfecting the ruffles trend is picking pieces that will draw attention to your favorite features (and avoiding them where you don’t want attention). And if you’re not very into this kind of elegant look, you can still find ruffles in the most unexpected places like on your shoes or your handbag. Here are my favorite ways to wear the ruffles trend this season:
On the Sleeves
I love the amount of ruffles I’m seeing on sweaters and jackets! Whether it’s a trim on a fluted sleeve or boldly layered from the shoulder down, ruffles on your sleeves is the most obvious way to wear the trend right now. The key to making this look work is pairing it with a simple pant or skirt. The more body-hugging the silhouette, the more your ruffles will pop!
Adorning the Neckline
Ruffles adorning the neckline is one of my personal favorites as you can tell in this outfit. It was the focal point and inspiration in my look. I also love the contrasting stripes that adds a casual touch to an elevated and forward ensemble. Just keep in mind that ruffles around the neck and shoulder is cue to stay away from over the top accessories especially earrings and necklaces. Notice how I avoided both!
Trousers with ruffles at the ankle like the ones I’m wearing here are hot trending items at the moment. They’re great for when you don’t feel like putting a whole lot of effort into your outfit because you can throw on classic pieces like a t-shirt and mules and you’re set. For more on how to wear mules, you can visit my previous post here.
While tiered ruffles is something I’ll never get tired of, I understand that it’s not a look everyone wants to wear all the time. Luckily, this season’s modern dresses aren’t all flirty and feminine. The ruffles trend is making subtle appearances on dresses and skirts by just dangling at the hem or off the shoulder. Wearing ruffles in this way is the best option if you want to incorporate some frill without going all out.
On Your Outerwear
You can also take the ruffles trend deep into winter by wearing them on your jacket or coat! I love basic staples that have been taken to new heights, so pay attention to ruffles dressing up coats along the waistline or cascading off the edges of its lapel. A ruffle detail may even show up along the lining of a trumpet sleeve. Regardless of where you might find them, don’t underestimate how a ruffle jacket/coat can take a bundled look from frumpy to chic!
On Your Accessories
When everything I listed above doesn’t work in your favor, you can always leave it to your accessories. Ruffle shoes or handbags is a great way to add another layer of texture and dimension. To wear ruffle accessories, treat them as you would a statement shoe or a bold pop of color.
