Tina Travels: Paris After Dark - Visiting the Infamous Moulin Rouge | Of Leather and Lace

Red is the color of passion, danger and the windmill that gives the notorious cabaret its name: Moulin Rouge. Join me as I visit the home of French can-can in my Atsuko Kudo red latex dress.

PARIS AFTER DARK: VISITING THE INFAMOUS MOULIN ROUGE

(Wearing Atsuko Kudo)

Moulin Rouge was first established during the Belle Epoque in 1889. It was a music hall extravaganza full of songs and dances. Courtesans would perform their sexy can-can dance and seduce their patrons within this risque establishment.

Nowadays Moulin Rouge is a popular tourist attraction in the Pigalle area. A visit to the city of lights simply wouldn’t be complete without a visit to this naughty and vibrant attraction. You can take a photo outside in front of the famed red windmill or pay the (hefty) entrance fee) to watch the extravaganza. Expect to see an abundance of feathers, crystals and LOTS of skin.

HIGH-END LATEX DESIGNS: ATSUKO KUDO

I have had my eyes set on many of Atsuko Kudo’s pieces since I started studying fashion more than 5 years ago. Atsuko Kudo is a Japanese designer who specializes in high-end fetish-inspired latex designs. The brand is a favorite of many famous artists including Beyonce, my favorite Dita von Teese (Read about my posts on Dita von Teese here and here) and Lady Gaga.

I love the brand for its innovative use of latex (laser cutting, adding oriental elements and printing on latex) and its dedication to fit and quality. Although the standard size S fit me perfectly, they have a bespoke shop where you could have everything ordered to fit. This Paris Cup Pencil Dress is by far the most form-fitting fashion item I own. It fits like a glove and makes me feel sexy and powerful.

FUN FACT

Remember how the character Satine of the 2001 movie Moulin Rouge lived and entertained inside a giant elephant within the Moulin Rouge? This was actually a real installment back in the early 1900s. Supposedly men could pay the mere price of a franc and be entertained by seductive courtesans in the belly of this elephant. You can see the rear of the elephant peeking out from behind the windmill below. The elephant was later teared down in 1906 before the renovation of the infamous cabaret hall.
