Tina Goes to New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2018 (NYFW Recap) | New York Fashion Week Street Style Shots | Alena Akhmadhullina Robe | Of Leather and Lace
The last 4 days New York saw fashion brands, fashionistas, bloggers and celebrities gather around the Meatpacking District for a stylish biannual extravaganza we call fashion week. This was my first time attending fashion week as a blogger, so here is my Spring Summer 2018 NYFW Recap!

NYFW Recap

Spring Summer 2018

NYFW Street Style Outfit 1 + Made it into Cosmo!

To be honest, this isn’t actually my first fashion week experience. Back in 2014 when I was interning for Jason Wu as a design student I had attended their show once. But this is my first fashion week as a fashion blogger so I am super excited to share my NYFW recap!

One of the biggest moments for me this fashion week season was having my street style shot featured as one of 103 Jaw-Dropping Street Style Photos from New York Fashion Week (Slide #31) as well as on their Instagram.

I am wearing an Alena Akhmadullina robe from their Spring 2017 collection. When I saw it on sale at Moda Operandi I pranced on it right away! It hasn’t been easy finding an occasion for this robe, but I’m glad it finally got to make an appearance during NYFW. Funnily enough, I had just missed the Leanne Marshall show and was waiting outside for my blogger friend Rachel to come out. While I was waiting I got approached a lot by girls complimenting the robe and photographers asking to take my photo. I swear, every time I wear a piece by Alena Akhmadullina, something amazing happens. Last time I wore her wave dress from her earlier collections and now the dress is on display at a museum! Check out the original post where I wore her wave dress here.

NYFW Street Style Outfit 2

Right before my first fashion show I had the chance to meet up with Susan Hang from Le Jolie. We had connected on Instagram a while back and she was in the city for the weekend so we scheduled a shoot. I love meeting other bloggers who are sensible, smart and fun to talk to and Susan was exactly that. We shot this outfit after the Taoray Wang show (more photos further down) at Skylight Clarkson Square.

This Phillip Limbomber jacket is one of my favorite pieces this season. The silky fabric and the pearl details are what sold me. It is definitely a jacket worth investing in! The booties I am wearing are from Louis Vuitton. I purchased them in Florence on my recent trip to Italy. Personally I think they are SO chic. They were photographed quite a lot too by street style photographers!

Taoray Wang Show

The first show of this New York Fashion Week was Taoray Wang. I loved her deconstructed looks and chic workwear looks. Turns out it was the only show I ended up going to because I missed the Leanne Marshall show by a couple minutes and I didn’t attend two other shows due to personal obligations. Taoray Wang’s collection was a very well put together collection with lots of trendy elements like fringes, deconstructed elements and big wide belts. There were several pieces that I would personally wear. Here are some of my favorites.

Style Collective + Muses Meetup at STK

When fashion week comes around that means all the bloggers and influencers are in town! I attended two meetups this season – Style Collective blogger brunch and Muses App meetup at STK rooftop. One of the most amazing things about blogging is getting to meet lots of amazing and driven ladies. I hadn’t attended any such meetups prior to this so it was such a special experience for me.

I met blogger friends that I’ve been friends with on Instagram for months. It feels like they just walked out of their pictures! It’s almost like you’ve been dating someone online for a few months and you finally see them in person. To be honest, I am a huge introvert and I am not skilled at socializing. I usually dread talking to strangers and going to parties where I don’t know anyone. But this season I really tried to step out of my comfort zone and I don’t regret it one bit. There is something about meeting and interacting with people in real life that virtual chit chat just cannot replace.

Frankie Pop Up x Ivy Social

Another event that I was able to attend, thanks to my friends Jesse and Jerry, was the Frankie X Ivy Social pop up event in SOHO. Popups like these are a great way for brands to showcase their new collections and introduce new people to their products. Jesse and Jerry are friends with the current owners of Frankie (Remember the famous jeans Frankie B from the 90s?) and I got to meet them and chat a little about their new amazing shearling coats and jackets.

I hope you enjoyed reading my NYFW recap! I will definitely be attending more fashion week events and shows in future seasons. Who knows, maybe I’ll even go to Milan or London next season! 🙂
