MISSED CONNECTIONS 1

“You had jet black hair, an olive fur scarf, a matching vest and black leather boots. Your bag was red – like your lips. You sat there with a sort of melancholy I could almost touch…

I missed an opportunity to introduce myself. I wonder if we would meet again”

“I waited for you to look back at me hoping we would make eye contact, hoping I would smile at you and that you would smile back.”

MISSED CONNECTIONS 3

“I saw you from the platform. Your train was going in the opposite direction. For a split second I wanted to jump onto your train just so I could talk to you.”

“The door closed. Your train left. I was still on the platform.”

MISSED CONNECTIONS 4

“You smiled at me as I stood up and gave my seat to an elderly lady. You got off at the next stop while I continued on to Brooklyn.”

“I wish I had said hello”

MISSED CONNECTIONS 5

I saw you from across the platform. People migrated from one platform to another, scurrying to get to their end destination. But you just sat there.”

MISSED CONNECTIONS 6

“I wondered what you were smiling at on your phone.”

Have you ever seen someone on the train whom you wanted to talk to? Perhaps you made eye contact or even smiled at each other. Have you ever looked at another passenger and felt curious about who they are, what they do and why they are here? Have you ever felt that connection with a complete stranger during your commute?

These are all precious moments. They are precious because in the blink of an eye, that moment could be gone. You never know when someone is going to get on the next train or hop off the next station. While you stand/sit there wondering, they could just be one station away from disappearing from your life forever.

Will you savor the fleeting moment of connection then be content in letting it pass by and become a missed connection. Or, perhaps next time, will you not approach them and say hi?
