Are you hesitant to wear a lace bodysuit out? I’m here to banish your fears, give you some tips and tell you exactly how you can wear a lace bodysuit out without looking inappropriate or overexposed!
HOW TO WEAR A LACE BODYSUIT OUT
Bodysuits have been trending for quite a while now and they are not going away anytime soon! I’ve worn multiple bodysuits on my blog myself including this deep-V one, as well as this mesh one both from Nasty Gal. Today I will be showcasing several lace bodysuits by Thistle and Spire that can all be worn out.
Thistle and Spire is a lingerie brand based in Brooklyn, NY that juxtaposes luxe fabrics with bold lines and architectural details. They often feature beautiful laces as well as amazing strappy pieces. As a former lingerie designer I value quality just as much as the design and Thistle and Spire definitely exceeds in both!
There are so many great things about form-fitting bodysuits like not having to wear a bra and not having to worry about your clothes gaping open. But because of the see-through nature of a lace bodysuit, you do need to pick and choose the right one to fit your needs.
BODYSUIT WITH LINED CUPS
Your easiest and best option is to go with a lace bodysuit that already covers up your sensitive parts for you. Having cup lining also means an extra layer to prevent awkward nipple protrusion. The mixed lace bodysuit I’m wearing is lightly lined so does the job just fine. I love how there’s varying levels of transparency in this one bodysuit. The placement of the lace and the halter neck also makes this a very flattering piece.
Another great lace bodysuit by Thistle and spire is their signature constellation bodysuit. This is by far my absolute favorite bodysuit. I have this in both black and burgundy and I wear them out all the time!
I have also worn an off-the-shoulder lace bodysuit by Thistle and Spire in Paris. I always wear it out as is and have received so many compliments! (More photos of this outfit here: Romantic Outfit Ideas in Paris, France) I’ve never had to wear a bra underneath this lace bodysuit because it is lined perfectly and extremely comfortable as well.
Recently I traveled to Italy and Turkey and I brought another new bodysuit by Thistle and Spire along with me. (You can follow my journeys on Instagram!) This Amore Plunge bodysuit is more of a sexy piece and would be great for parties! Again, the boob area is lined strategically so you can easily wear this out as is.

WEAR A LIGHT JACKET
If you want to wear a bodysuit out but feel overexposed you can easily throw a light denim or leather jacket over it. Here I’m wearing my mum’s denim jacket from the 90s (thanks mummy) to avoid leather overdose as I’m already wearing leather pants. You can also try wearing a light scarf or shaw, letting it drape over your breasts and fastening it with a belt.
When I went to Milan, I chose to go for a bomber jacket instead of a denim jacket. This one is by Phillip Lim and has these gorgeous pearl button details.

WEAR A NIPPLE PASTY
Another easy way to avoid nipple nightmares is to wear a nipple pasty. Now, I have not personally worn this, and whether you are comfortable wearing this under a see-through lace bodysuit is up to you. There are many designs and options out there but I would suggest to stick to something simple like a black pasty under a dark color lace bodysuit. It may still be considered inappropriate in many circumstances but I’m sure you’ll be fine at a music festival or club. I would avoid wearing skin colored pasties because then you might look like your nipples have gone missing. But hey, it’s up to you!

WEAR A BRA UNDERNEATH
Wearing a bra underneath a lace bodysuit can be a bit tricky especially if the bra or bodysuit already has some design element. You want to avoid having the two items clash too much and overcrowding with straps. So if you are wearing a strappy bodysuit, wear a plain triangular bra with thin straps underneath. If your bodysuit is plain then wear a bra with unique strap details underneath as a statement feature! Marlies Dekkers and Bordelle are two great brands for statement strappy bras to wear underneath see-through clothing. This bra by Free People is also a great choice to wear under a lace bodysuit and it’s only $20!
