How to Wear Tweed in Spring | Of Leather and Lace - Fashion & Travel Blog by Tina Lee | Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, tweed jacket outfit

Temperatures have warmed up all over except for New York City and that’s the beauty of Spring in the Big Apple. I love the city life but the biggest challenge around this season is dressing appropriately for fickle temperatures. Some days are predictable and others aren’t so much. Even if I’m ready to hang up my coats, I can’t be without at least one jacket. The style I’m super obsessed with right now is the tweed jacket so I thought I’d share some tips for how to wear tweed in spring.

How to Wear Tweed in Spring

Tweed is predominantly worn in the winter because the thick material keeps you warm and was known historically to keep moisture out. It’s fell off our radar for a long time, but I’m happy to see it popping up again and this time, with a younger crowd embracing the old age fabric. Because of Chanel, I’ve always felt like there was a certain elegance and seriousness to tweed that other materials lacked. All through fashion history, I felt like tweed was like status symbol exuding class, intelligence, and refinement. And today, it’s become more of a wardrobe staple that pulls together an outfit with polish and sophistication. In New York, tweed will you serve you well in spring! Here are a few of my favorite ways to pull it off:

Tweed Jacket

I’m sure you can tell from my Instagram, but a tweed jacket has been my go-to spring jacket. I’m so happy to see that modern tweed jackets aren’t just woven in brown and gray textiles anymore. You guys know how much I love red so when I spotted this jacket at Zara, I knew it was meant for me! I wore it a lot during my Italy trip because it looked so chic with my jeans and skirt. I sometimes get tired of leather jackets and hipster dusters, so if you feel the same way, a tweed jacket is the best feminine refresher!

Tweed Pants

Another tweed trend I haven’t embraced yet but I’m ready to is tweed trousers. With the rise of menswear fusing into womenswear, it makes so much sense why this style is becoming so popular. Even I have been wearing more pants lately and not just jeans – but trousers! I have a broad spectrum that ranges from wide legs to plaid. I’m feeling tweed trousers because it can be cool or classy depending on how you style it. My favorite is the semi-slouchy paper bag cut because the cropped and tapered legs looks amazing with pointed toe heels.

Tweed Skirt

If there’s one style that personifies Chanel, it’s a tweed jacket and skirt. I’m expecting this to be a major fall trend but you can get ahead of the game and start now. I favor tweed mini skirts with an asymmetrical cut because they look more flattering and unique. And when you pair them up with over the knee boots or classic pumps, you’ll look so elegant! A tweed skirt works in the spring because you can mix in a sheer, summery blouse to subtract the heavy look. You can also mix in summery textures like a raffia hat or transparent tote.

I’d never thought to wear tweed in the Spring but thanks so you I totally see how it works! I also agree that tweed skirts are very versatile and an asymmetrical cut definitely makes it more interesting, wearable, and flattering. I’m also loving paperbag pants, they look so cool and different!
