All things high-gloss and reflective seem to be the hottest trends this season. If you haven’t quite caught on, I will be showing you how to wear the vinyl trend today.
HOW TO WEAR THE VINYL TREND
Whether or not you’re ready for the vinyl trend, it’s already here so you might as well give it a try. It should be no surprise that I’m a fan of the vinyl look given my blog name. My views on wearing vinyl are similar to how I feel about wearing a lace bodysuit out – you simply need to pick and choose the right piece that best aligns with your style. I personally feel that a monochrome look with small pops of color and varying textures look best with vinyl pieces, but it’s never a bad idea to test the waters. Here are my favorite pieces for perfecting the vinyl trend this season.
The best way to balance out a thigh-grazing mini skirt is with a modest top! In this outfit, I went with a high-waisted vinyl skirt and cropped sweater with full sleeves. I love the pockets and zip detailing on this skirt because it’s so edgy and chic. A mini skirt like this one also presents a great opportunity to show off a trendy vinyl boot – like these ones by Kendall + Kylie! The translucent effect along with the lace-up accents on my sweater really helped break up a full-on black outfit. If you’re more conservative and looking for an easy way to make the vinyl mini work for the day, try pairing it with a simple top and flats. However, if you’re ready to embolden the look for a night out, opt for a bright red one.

Patent leather trousers is a sharp eye-stopping look. So, I find that it’s best to pair them with softer, feminine pieces like a fitted knit top or a ruffle blouse. Vinyl pants also look amazing with basics for a casual, low-key outfit. Keep in mind to pull back on the accessories and let the pants speak for themselves. It’s obvious that vinyl pants naturally stand out on their own, so I think they look especially modern when worn with lots of texture… This could be a cotton blouse and fur coat or a soft oversized knit with a fur vest.

If you’re really into edgier downtown looks, a vinyl jacket might just be the perfect piece for you. From biker-style jackets to sportier parkas, it’s a great way to bring a futuristic element into your daily wear. Whether you’re out running errands or meeting up with friends at the bar, this coated outerwear look is a wonderful way to add contrast to a feminine dress or a casual jeans and t-shirt mix.

If you’re still not quite ready to embrace the high-shine look, a far more understated and wearable way to try the trend is with footwear. Don’t get tricked into thinking vinyl shoes only work in movies like Pretty Women… A simple vinyl bootie with denim is a fresh take on your average black suede. If you want to step it up a little, look for details like exposed zippers and gaudy hardware. At a minimum, you can always wear patent leather pumps if vinyl boots are too much.
