I thought at first that the metallic trend was temporary and would soon die out. After this NYFW round, it’s clear that metallics aren’t going away. I’m sharing an outfit I wore recently with some tips for how to wear metallic pieces at any time.
How to Wear Metallic Pieces at Any Time
Metallic pieces can be intimidating to try if you appreciate and prefer more elegant clothing styles. However, it’s all about how you frame and style the pieces together. I think that mixing a classy aesthetic with current fashion trends is an amazing mix that can create a stunning ensemble.
If you’re not sure how to wear metallic, I broke down four common occasions that will help you get a head start on this trend:
For work
Metallic pieces can be tricky to wear for work because they’re loud and feel very “out there”. However, it can look professional if you pick the right colors. If you wear darker hues like a pleated midnight blue skirt or black trousers with light shimmer, then it feels more elevated already. You can pair styles like this with blazers and button-up shirts to suit a business context.
For brunch
If you’re having brunch with family, I would keep it simple. You can look classy with clothing items like metallic slip dresses, midi skirts, and even silver or gold heels. These are all great styles for brunch. For something more chill with friends, leather pants with a metallic blouse are great. I really like how leather and metallics look together and that inspired this look. Because it’s the day time, I would stick to softer tones like nudes, blush pink, and silver.
On the weekend
There are no restrictions for weekend outfits. My outfit in this post is weekend ready because it combines a relaxed top with snug-fit pants. It’s comfortable and easy to move around in. If you’re busy and running around the city, metallic boots are a fun piece to try. I purchased a pair of gold Balmain boots recently, which I wore here, and they’re great for weekend runs. If you have metallic sneakers, shiny pants, or a jacket with edgy metallic details, the weekend is the best time to go out in those items.
For an evening out
A dressy metallic top is great for dinner dates or going out with friends. Something like my top can send dressy vibes because it’s low cut and the off the shoulder neckline. If you’re wearing pants, try stiletto pumps or combine it with a mini skirt. Or try a chic metallic suit for something fun. I love metallic suits because they look extremely elegant and feminine with the right accessories such as patent leather pumps and a small clutch.
