It’s so easy to think that wide leg pants aren’t lady-like when we’ve been so stuck on body-hugging skinny jeans. However, a new silhouette is in town and I’m loving it. If you haven’t gotten on board, I’ll be dishing out my favorite tips on how to style wide leg pants so you can wear them too!

TOP TIPS ON HOW TO STYLE WIDE LEG PANTS

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, you should really consider wide leg pants as a part of your holiday ensemble. It gives you plenty of room to breathe, eat, and relax! They’re perfect because they flatter everyone’s shape and size as long as you find the one that fits. So, give your skinny pants a break and catch others by surprise with a fresh and modern silhouette. Although, you’re used to seeing me in form-fitting pieces like a leather dress, today’s outfit is proof that anyone can pull off the wide leg pants trend. This piece is quickly becoming one of my favorites for all the ways you can style it.

Pick the right print (or color)

I naturally lean towards softer palettes or lots of red, so for an ultra-modern fall look, I decided to go with a plaid print. I knew that plaid would look great with bright red accessories like my Chanel bag and boots. It’s also super on-trend at the moment so it just made sense for me. This outfit reminds me of classic film and being in Paris couldn’t have been more fitting. If your style is a little more whimsical, you can try polka dots, but if you’re more of a minimalist, a solid color like cream is just perfect. You can alway go for stripes or pick one in a rich texture like velvet or sequins.

Pair it with a button-down

Fitted button-down shirts look great with everything and it’s exactly how I wore my wide leg pants. A classic button-down will make you feel powerful and strong without losing your femininity. Although seemingly basic, today’s selection provide many wonderful options. I always look for details like ruffled sleeves, cut outs, or even a bowtie decoration like you see in my look here. When paired with wide leg pants, you get an outfit that’s polished, elegant, and practical.

Style it with heels

I love the look of wide leg pants with heels. While you can get away with flats, I feel like you look far more elongated and elevated with heels. In the summer, you can have fun with strappy sandals and block-heeled mules, but in the winter, slip on some pumps or a stiletto boot. The appearance of a pointed toe peeking out from the floor-grazing pant leg is really timeless – especially when in a contrasty color combo like red and plaid or black and white.

Experiment with volume if you dare

A billowy trouser with a fitted top (like a corset or a silk cami) are obvious pairings that will always look great. However, if you really want to be a trendsetter, try a blouse with voluminous sleeves or a slightly oversized funnel neck sweater. The trick to making these exaggerated proportions work lies in the length of your pieces. Make sure your top doesn’t fall below the hips otherwise you can end up looking frumpy. And don’t wear ruffles up to your chin.

Wear a blazer

You can’t go wrong with a pantsuit look especially in a punchy color. Try an all-red look, a bright yellow suit – or even cobalt blue. The great thing about this kind of bold look is that you can throw on a plain white tee and tuck it in or just stick to very minimal accessories. Either way, you’ll still look great because blazers keep everything crisp!

Add statement accessories

As classic as wide leg pants can feel, you can always spruce things up with strong accessories whether it’s the color, structure, or size! I chose red because it’s one of my favorite colors. However, your options are endless. You can throw on loud dangling earrings, a chunky necklace, or a neck scarf – and you’ll look chic as ever!
