December weather in New York brings colder temperatures, but not cold enough for me to stop wearing skirts. The dilemma, however, is not how to wear skirts during winter – an over-the-knee boots or some stockings should suffice. (I tell people I have trained my legs to feel no cold) The dilemma is how to add a pop of color to your outfit in this winter drab. The more obvious ways are to don a bright jacket/coat or wrap a colorful scarf around your neck. I like to opt for more subtle and smaller ways to add color to your winter outfit.

BOLD LIPS & NAILS

The first and best way to add a pop of color is to wear bold lips. Despite the efforts we put into our bodies and clothing, the universal truth is that people look at our faces first. So why not brighten up your face with gorgeous lip colors whether it’s a seductive red, mysterious purple or bubbly pink? Nails are also a more subtle but great way to add in your favorite pop of color. With the risk of being a little matchy-matchy I am wearing red lips with red nails. But hey, I like it!of leather and lace blog add a pop color

EYEWEAR WITH COLOR

How about coordinating the color of your sunglasses to the color of your lips? Sunglasses are a great way to frame your face and adding some color can easily brighten up your face this coming winter season.of leather and lace blog add a pop color

ACCENT COLORS IN THE BAG

Rather than go all out matchy-matchy and carry a red bag, I chose this Louis Vuitton bag with a hint of red. It’s the little bit of red going peek-a-boo that makes it work so perfectly. Not too much and not too little.

STATEMENT JEWELRY

Whether it’s paired with a low neckline or just sitting nicely over a neutral colored sweater, statement jewelry is another sure way to add color and bring life to your outfit. It’s hard to wear delicate trinkets against heavy and bulky winter fabrics. Statement jewelry, on the other hand, doesn’t get drowned in the midst of the wool, cashmere and fur.

COLOR UNDERNEATH

Yes, by underneath, I mean underneath your clothing – lingerie! I have not attached a photo for this one for obvious reasons so you’ll just have to trust me. 😉 Not just a tool to make your man’s eyes ogle, lingerie is great for building inner confidence and sexiness. Excuse the little pun.
