Looking for something to see in Barcelona that’s not by Gaudi yet is still stunningly beautiful? Hospital Sant Pau is by far the most beautiful hospital I’ve ever seen and it’s a must see hidden gem of Barcelona!
HOSPITAL SANT PAU
The Must Visit Hidden Gem of Barcelona
We all know the must visit places in Barcelona like Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and Casa Mila, but did you know about Hospital Sant Pau, the hidden gem of Barcelona? When I saw photos of this hidden gem I couldn’t believe it was actually a functioning hospital until 2009. Hospital Sant Pau was built in the early 1900s through 1930s and, like Palau de la Musica Catalana, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hospital Sant Pau underwent some restoration and was reopened in 2014 as a museum and cultural center after a new hospital was built next to it in 2009.
Both the beautiful exterior and gorgeous interior of this hospital will amaze you. The tiled surfaces and stained glasses are amazing works of art and every little detail is worth admiring. This hospital was actually funded by a banker and was built for the poor. It’s not just beautiful but it’s also smart and functional with underground tunnels servicing the patients that were once treated there.
What I loved the most was this beautiful corridor that was inside the main building. I saw this stunning corridor on Instagram and that’s actually how I found Hospital Sant Pau. I am so glad I found this hidden gem of Barcelona, and I’m sure you’d love it too! You’ll mostly get the space to yourself or be joined by a couple other people since it hasn’t been discovered by as many tourists. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. And don’t forget to buy tickets in advance and book a tour for your visit! (Scroll further down for visitor info & tips on visiting!)

Great style !
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place…
