Today’s theme is flares! Flared sleeves, flared pants, flared everything! Statement sleeves and flared pants have been around as a trend for a while now. Trends tend to start small, develop over several seasons and get more and more exaggerated as designers attempt to reinvent the trend each season and surpass the last. So it is no surprise that the flares just keep getting bigger and bigger.
I had previously written posts on flared sleeves here and here as well as a post on voluminous sleeves. The exaggerated sleeves trend has been done to death. But I love it. I wish it would stay in trend forever, but my prediction is that it’s on its way out in the next couple seasons. That’s just the nature of fashion trends.
This Storets top is one of my favorite flared sleeves. (It is unfortunately sold out now, but you can shop similar ones here and here) They cascade perfectly and have these amazing contrast sleeve edges. Instead of pairing it with my usual shorts or mini skirt/skort, I decided to do flared everything and pair it with these flared pants with cute scallop edges (Similar here). We aren’t exactly in an age of doing things “just enough”. It’s all about extremes and exaggeration. And I love it! Go big or go home, right? ; )
