The colder months in NYC can get super harsh so gathering your fall must-have sweaters now will be a smart way to stay warm throughout winter. I’ve already started a stash which I’ve been living in – and wanted to share my top fall must-have sweaters everyone needs to try.
FALL MUST-HAVE SWEATERS TO LIVE IN THROUGH WINTER
Knitwear this year has felt more innovative than ever before, so you’ll definitely find something that suits your tastes. If you’re into simple styles like a cashmere turtleneck or a cable knit top, your options are abundant. However, don’t be surprised to dive into sweaters with unique details like balloon sleeves or interlaced accents. There are just so many great options to pick from at all price points that it’s difficult to stay away. But feel no shame caving into fall’s knitwear trends because my top picks will take you through the end of winter.
To get you started on what to lookout for as holiday sales start popping up, here are my favorite fall must-have sweaters:
Textured sweaters have become such a major ordeal over the last few seasons and it’s something that has grown on me. If you’re ready to try a knitwear trend that’s completely unexpected, pick one with pom-poms or fringe. However, if that’s a little too much for you, pick one with oversized cables that really pop off a sweater. These soft, cozy textures have the power to lure people in and keep them there.
Bold colors are the easiest option when it comes to picking a sweater for fall. I’ve already talked about how big of a deal red is this season – and you’ve probably noticed me wearing yellow more frequently. But there are still so many other wonderful choices you can pick from. Why not try hot pink, cobalt blue, or emerald green? You can’t go wrong with jewel tones in the fall. Besides, they’re so ideal for cold weather occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Prints and patterns are always a fun addition to sweaters. Leopard print sweaters have been popular for years, but if you want to try something out of the box, go for a camouflage print like I did here. Stripes is another print that constantly looks fresh – plus it’s a classic and no one ever gets tired of it. You may even find sweaters interwoven with multiple colors that result in an interesting pattern. No matter which print or pattern you go with, they all look great with jeans, trousers, and skirts. That means you can take them from office to evening.
Sleeve interest is probably one of my personal favorites when it comes to fall must-have sweaters. I just love how
I’m seeing exaggerated sleeves in sweaters constantly. Whether its ruffles, bubble, or flared sleeves, they all add a hint of flirtiness to a classic piece. You can see how I wore a mini trumpet sleeve knit back in September and a ruffle one here. Both just look so feminine! Statement sleeves make the best sweaters when you don’t have time to pull a thoughtful outfit together.
This season’s sweaters also come with so many special details from embroidered to embellishments and patchwork. The offerings are just unwavering. Pearls and sequins are both very popular accents right now, so expect to come across several knits that are decked out with one or the other. You can also expect to find lace running through your sweater, down the sleeves, or on the back. Notice how my sweater has lace detailing around the arms? And count yourself lucky if you’re digging the athleisure trend because logos are all the rage right now. Your favorite designers are plastering graphic logos across the front of sweaters – these are perfect for a casual jeans and sneakers day.
