Although inclement weather presents huge challenges for pulling off amazing cold-weather style, there are always little things you can do to upgrade your look. And I’m always a fan of putting more effort into getting dressed because when you look better, you naturally feel better. Cold weather often screams scarves, cute pom pom beanies, or snow bunny boots, but I stray from the usual today. I decided to throw in a little edge for that cool-girl vibe. Remember that even the smallest fashion swaps can make the biggest difference.

Here’s a little cool street style inspiration along with some more tips for your next winter outfit:

Wear something printed.

Winter typically feels like a time for solids because it’s so easy to reach for, and that’s why everyone is always wearing deep blues, black, gray, cream, or camel. And while those are staple hues that will never go wrong in the cold, there’s no need to keep it basic all the time. You should instead look for ways to mix the solids and prints in your closet to achieve a fun and interesting look. I wore this star-printed denim jacket off the shoulder a few months ago but decided to bring it back for winter. This time, I paired it with a simple gray knit, and I’m loving how fresh it feels in the cold.

Resort to leather pants.

When all else fails, you can always resort to leather pants. Whether you’re wearing a pair of faux or real leather pants, they make everything look so much edgier. Besides, they’re extremely versatile and look flawless with everything, especially denim jackets! Some of my favorite leather pants combos include soft knits, slouchy button-down tops, ruffle sweaters, and deconstructed pieces. I know I can always rely on this wardrobe essential to keep it cool.

Let your shoes do the talking.

I also know I have an insane shoe obsession, but I didn’t want to wear my usual over the knee boots. I decided to break out this badass bulky piece because it’s so unexpected. The heavy gold construction is so statement making that I can get away with wearing less. It’s easy to see how these boots were the highlight item in my entire outfit. So, the next time you’re stumped for looking pulled together, remember to let your shoes do the talking – they can most times make an outfit.

Tie it all together with jewelry.

To finalize your cool street-style-inspired outfit, look for the right jewels to put on the finishing touches. And you may not need much depending on your outfit. My Balmain liquid gold boots and Balenciaga bag called for something gold, and I just knew these earrings were the perfect add-on. It brings in a touch of metal up top which balances out this bottom-heavy gold look. I just love how it pops against the gray and blue.
