BRANDE CRUSH: BORDELLE

When I first discovered Bordelle in 2011 I was mesmerized. I had never heard of bondage before then but I immediately fell in love with the strong lines that give the body structure and definition. They describe their label as one that fills “a gap in the market for experimental lingerie that blurs the lines between seduction and ready to wear”. When Bordelle first launched at Selfridges in 2009 they immediately sold out, proving that there was definitely a market for high end, wearable kink.

I had always loved straps, gold hardware and high end lingerie, so my love for Bordelle was natural and immediate. I was surprised to discover that the founder of Bordelle, Alexandra Popa, actually had no formal training in lingerie design (which I have MAD respect for) because all the designs are so intricate and meticulously made. This probably explains their bra sizing system (S, M, L – even for bras with cups), which I think is quite ingenious! Because adjustable straps are often the main component of Bordelle pieces, it is easy to adjust the size. I was surprised to find that their bras with cups fitted very well once adjusted. They also provide bespoke lingerie for an even better fit.

I own so many Bordelle pieces (collected over the years) that I honestly can’t tell you how many I have. I’ve even visited their gorgeous showroom to purchase some pieces while I was in London at London College of Fashion doing a Lingerie Design short course. The Angela Girdle Dress I am wearing in this post is absolutely my favorite piece. I have actually worn it out for Halloween (twice!) and still can’t get enough of it. Many of their pieces are great for styling, especially when you are wearing it under a transparent piece to subtly show off the straps and hardware details.
