Love it or hate it, 80s fashion trends are definitely making a come back in current trends – especially puffy sleeves!
Embracing 80s Fashion Trends: Puffy Sleeves
The 80s was a time of bold and exaggerated fashion trends. Extreme puffy sleeves, gold or silver lamé, padded shoulders, power suits and vinyl were some of the most popular and remembered 80s fashion trends. It could be tricky to style these trends in modern days without looking a little ridiculous. But still, I thought I’d give it a try! Surprisingly enough, I’m loving these 80s fashion trends! I think the key to successfully styling fashion trends from another decade is to take only some elements of those trends and pair them with something modern.
In today’s outfit I tackle the puffy sleeves trend from the 80s. I particularly remember this look because my mother’s wedding dress had the puffiest sleeves I had ever seen (much like Princess Diana’s wedding dress actually!). The modern counterpart I’ve chosen has puffy sleeves that are voluminous enough to make a statement, but not too exaggerated that I’d feel self-conscious wearing it out. I found this bubble sleeve top by Petersyn at Shopbop and it is actually 40% OFF! I paired it with an asymmetrical miniskirt from Storets and these amazing mules from Phillip Lim (40% OFF at Shopbop!) to give the outfit a more streamlined and modern look. These mules are turning out to be my favorite purchase from the Shopbop sale so far. Its shape and design makes your legs extend forever and the stud details are gorgeous!! Remaining sizes are limited so get it before they’re all gone!
If you love a good bargain and you enjoy buying luxury for cheap, then don’t miss out on the Shopbop sale! In yesterday’s post, I talk about all the best items worth getting from the sale and what I got from Shopbop!
